<strong>Agency Summary </strong><br>The purpose and mission of the Indianapolis Fire Department is to provide emergency and fire protection services for the City of Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Firefighters are also trained as paramedics, emergency medical technicians, extrication specialists, top water and rescue divers, confined space, trench rescue and as hazardous materials technicians to help save lives, protect property, and the environment. The agency is able to do this by cultivating a productive, collaborative, and compliant work environment in order for our workforce to meet the needs of the constituents of Indianapolis and Marion County. <br><br><strong>Job Summary</strong><br>The position is responsible completing annual fire and life safety inspections of all building types throughout the IFD district. Incumbent in this position looks for fire hazards and inspects fire related equipment. Incumbents will provide fire and life safety training and educational classes to children and adults in a variety of settings. Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent with five (5) years of work experience related to the position. Knowledge of rules and regulations of department, fire prevention, pre-planning, and inspections. Must have the ability to interact with a wide variety of government and private sector agencies. Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Must be customer service oriented and have strong organizational and communication skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred. Must be able to pass state certification of Inspector I or II within 12 months (1 year) of hire. Must maintain working knowledge of state, local, and NFPA codes.
