<strong>Candidates must be currently employed and have two or more years of current service with a law enforcment agency to qualify for the lateral hiring program.</strong> <br><br>The Town of Normal Police Department is seeking experienced Police Officers for accelerated/lateral entry. Candidates who are currently full-time sworn officers of a police department in any municipality, county, university or state law enforcement agency provided they are certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and have been with their respective law enforcement agency within the state for at least two (2) years, are eligible to apply.<br><br>The Normal Police Department employs a staff of more than 93 employees, 84 of them sworn, whose mission is to provide extraordinary service to the community while protecting life and property of all who live, work and visit here.<br><br>In addition to the traditional patrol and investigative functions, the department also has a variety of specialty assignments, such as Emergency Response Unit, Crisis Negotiation Team, Field Training Officers, School Resource Officers, Traffic Safety, Crime Scene and K-9 Officers, to name a few.
Requirements
<ul style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt;"><li>Two or more years of experience with current employer in law enforcement. <li>Must have, or be able to obtain and maintain, an Illinois driver's license. <li>Possess excellent communications skills, written and oral, including the ability to speak clearly, understandably, and effectively; and, the ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports with proper grammar and spelling. <li>Possess excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to get people to follow directions, and to inspire confidence in others. <li>Possess excellent customer service-oriented skills including the ability to deal courteously, but firmly, with the general public. <li>Ability to quickly learn and apply police methods, practices and procedure
