<p>The City of Roanoke is seeking a <strong>Virginia DCJS certified Police Officer</strong> to serve as a temporary criminal investigative detective. &nbsp;The Detective will be responsible for conducting criminal investigations within the Roanoke Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB). &nbsp; &nbsp;The Detective will be assigned to one of the investigation units within CIB to include Crimes against Property, Crimes against Persons, and/or the Special Victims Unit based upon the agencies current staffing needs. &nbsp;Specific job functions may vary based upon the area of assignment with the CIB. &nbsp;The general work description involves serving the community and protecting life, property and the rights of the public. &nbsp; Specific duties will include but not be strictly limited to conducting criminal investigations, preparing case files and reports, serving criminal process papers or court subpoenas, assisting with community functions, and testifying in court proceedings. &nbsp;Stressors of the job include the usual hazards of law enforcement work. &nbsp;</p><p>Minimum expected working hours will be 24 hours a week with a maximum average of 32 hours a week allo

Under the supervision of the shift supervisor, deputy sheriff's may by division assignment be responsible for protection of lives and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, enforcement of laws, service of civil processes, supervision and security of inmates of the county jail and training of probationary employees.
